The Story of Míša, Eliška & Johanka
At first, it looked like a fairy tale. Míša held two healthy baby girls in her arms - twins. Nothing suggested trouble ahead. “Two healthy babies, and you’re living on a cloud,” she used to say.
Then came the first blow. When the twins were six months old, Míša was left to raise them alone. “That’s manageable,” she told herself. And she did manage.
At four years old, another surprise - autism. Some imagine Rain Man brilliance, but the reality was different. Autism in daily life meant endless obstacles. “We’ll cope,” Míša repeated to herself.
But at seven years old came the hardest blow yet. The girls began to show movement disorders unrelated to autism. Genetic testing brought the diagnosis: limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, a disease that slowly weakens the muscles. “This isn’t funny anymore, not even in an American movie,” Míša thought. And she was right. It’s a condition you can live with, but few can imagine the strength, tears, and money it demands.
Today, at thirteen, Eliška and Johanka are two smiling young girls who radiate energy and joy despite their diagnosis. Every smile they share is proof that even illness cannot silence the happiness of living.
The Zkruhu Foundation has become part of their story, covering the cost of regular rehabilitation. These sessions are crucial to slowing the progression of the disease. They are expensive - but without them, the illness would advance much faster, and the girls’ chance at a better life would fade.
Eliška, Johanka, and their mother Míša prove that a family can endure even when life seems to hand out one test after another. And we’re grateful to stand beside them. Because their story isn’t just about hardship - it’s about courage, love, and strength that surpasses every boundary.
